Lunawood Hardwood Samples Now Available on Material Bank

Cleveland, GA, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Architects and designers can now experience Lunawood’s U.S.-sourced and U.S.-made thermally modified White Ash and Yellow Poplar through the leading material-sampling platform.

CLEVELAND, Ga., 9/9/2026Lunawood has made samples from its North American Collection available for the first time, giving architects and design professionals the opportunity to experience and evaluate its thermally modified American hardwoods. Samples of the White Ash and Yellow Poplar products are now available through Material Bank alongside Lunawood’s established Nordic Pine and Spruce collection.

While Pine and Spruce samples have previously been available directly through Lunawood’s website, the launch marks the first time samples from the company’s U.S.-made hardwood collection have been available through any platform.

Lunawood was one of the early pioneers of industrial-scale thermal modification. In the late 1990s, the company’s founders, brothers Aulis and Olavi Kärkkäinen, helped develop and later patented a continuous, multi-step thermal-modification process. Today, Lunawood applies more than two decades of expertise to Nordic Pine and Spruce made in Finland and American White Ash and Yellow Poplar sourced and thermally modified in the United States.

Through Material Bank, architects and designers can now order samples of all four Lunawood wood species—White Ash, Yellow Poplar, Nordic Pine and Nordic Spruce—within one familiar material-sourcing platform. The new availability makes it easier to compare their natural colors, grain patterns, textures and profiles when developing material palettes.

Bringing Natural Materiality Closer to the Design Process

As interest in biophilic design continues to influence architecture, natural materials are playing an increasingly important role in creating meaningful connections between people, buildings and the surrounding environment.

Lunawood supports this approach through wood products that retain the authentic grain, warmth and tactile character of the original material. The company is also a member of the International Biophilic Products Association, reflecting its commitment to advancing architecture that strengthens the relationship between people and nature.

“Wood is a material that needs to be experienced,” said Laura Elk from Lunawood. “By making our North American hardwood samples available through Material Bank, we are helping architects bring natural materiality into the earliest stages of their design process while giving them convenient access to products that are sourced and made here in the United States.”

American Hardwoods Enhanced with Heat and Steam

Lunawood’s North America Collection is produced from American White Ash and Yellow Poplar. The wood is thermally modified using heat and steam, without the addition of chemicals.

Thermal modification enhances the wood’s dimensional stability, durability and performance while creating a rich, warm appearance throughout the material. The resulting products offer architects a natural alternative to tropical hardwoods, chemically treated wood and non-renewable building materials.

The collection combines locally sourced American hardwoods with more than two decades of Lunawood’s experience in thermal modification and Nordic wood design. Products are available for a range of architectural applications, including exterior façades, interior surfaces, decking, battens and three-dimensional cladding.

A More Convenient Way to Discover and Specify Lunawood

Through Material Bank, architects and designers can browse available Lunawood hardwood products, select samples relevant to their projects and add them to their existing material orders.

The platform makes it easier for design teams to compare Lunawood products with other material combinations within a familiar specification workflow.
